Spot the Difference is a free online game you can play in your browser with no download and no sign-up. Two pictures look the same, but five things have changed: something is missing, something new has appeared, a colour is different, an object has grown or turned the other way. Tap a difference in either picture and it is circled in both. There are 24 levels across 12 illustrated scenes, from a kitchen and a beach to an attic, a market and the bottom of the sea, getting trickier in the second half. Stuck? Each level has three hints, and you can pinch or use the buttons to zoom in. There is no timer and no penalty for a wrong tap; finish without hints for three stars. Your progress is saved as you go.
Quick start
- Press Start Game. The level you played last opens straight away (level 1 the first time).
- Compare the two pictures. Five things are different in the right-hand one.
- Tap a difference in either picture; it is circled in both.
- Find all five to finish the level, then tap Next level.
How to play Spot the Difference
- Every level is a pair of pictures of the same scene with exactly five differences.
- A difference can be an object that is missing, an object that has appeared, a new colour, an object that is bigger, or one that faces the other way.
- Tap anywhere on a difference in either picture. Found differences are circled on both pictures and counted at the top.
- Tapping where there is no difference only shows a small red ring. There is no penalty and no timer.
- Each level has three hints. A hint outlines one of the differences you have not found yet for a moment.
- Finish without hints for three stars, with one hint for two, with more for one. Your best stars are kept for every level.
- There are 24 levels in 12 scenes. Levels 13 to 24 use the same scenes with smaller, subtler differences. All levels are open from the start in the level list.
Controls
- Mark a difference: tap or click it in either picture
- Zoom: pinch with two fingers, turn the mouse wheel, or use the − and + buttons; ⤢ shows the whole picture again
- Move around a zoomed picture: drag it (both pictures move together)
- Keyboard: H hint, + and − zoom, 0 whole picture
- Levels: pick any level; the stars you have earned are shown on each
Tips
- Go through the pictures in strips: the top shelf, the middle, the floor. It is easier than looking everywhere at once.
- Count the objects on a shelf or a table in both pictures; a missing or extra one stands out.
- Colour changes are easiest to spot from a little further away, mirror images from close up.
- On a phone, zoom in on a busy corner: both pictures zoom together, so you can compare them side by side.
- Save your hints for the last difference; that is usually the hardest one.

How many levels are there?
24, in 12 illustrated scenes: a kitchen, a garden, a beach, a living room, a kids' room, a picnic, an attic, a classroom, a market, a workshop, the bottom of the sea and a winter cabin. Each scene has an easier level and a harder one.
What happens if I tap the wrong place?
Nothing bad: a small red ring shows where you tapped and disappears. There is no penalty, no timer and no lives.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. The differences you have found in the current level and the stars for every level are saved in your browser.
