Block Puzzle — free online Casual game

Drag, drop, clear the lines: a calm block puzzle with a new daily challenge.

Block Puzzle is a free online block game you can play in your browser with no download and no sign-up. Drag pieces from the tray of three onto the 8×8 board; fill a whole row or column and it clears. Clear several lines at once, or keep clearing move after move, for a bigger score, and empty the whole board for a 300-point bonus. When none of the pieces left in the tray fits anywhere, the game is over. In Endless mode every new set of three includes a piece that fits, and the Daily puzzle gives everyone the same pieces each day. There is no timer, it works with a mouse or a finger, and your game is saved as you go.

Quick start

  1. Press Start Game. The board and your first three pieces are ready; there is nothing to set up.
  2. Drag a piece from the tray onto the board. A faint shadow shows where it will land, and the lines it would complete light up.
  3. Fill a whole row or column to clear it and score.
  4. Keep going until none of the pieces left in the tray fits anywhere, then tap Play again.

How to play Block Puzzle

  1. The board is 8 × 8. You get three pieces at a time; when all three are placed, three new ones arrive.
  2. Pieces cannot be rotated. Each one goes down exactly as it is shown and must lie completely on empty squares.
  3. A row or column that is completely filled clears at once. A square on a full row and a full column clears with both.
  4. Scoring: 1 point for every square you place, plus 10 points for one line, 30 for two at once, 60 for three and 100 for four.
  5. Streak: every placement that clears lines raises the streak, and line points are multiplied by it (×1.5 for the second clear in a row, ×2 for the third, and so on). The streak ends after three placements in a row that clear nothing.
  6. Clear the whole board for a 300-point bonus.
  7. The game is over when none of the pieces left in the tray fits anywhere. Pieces that no longer fit are shown faded.
  8. Endless mode deals every new set so that at least one piece fits. The Daily puzzle deals the same fixed pieces to everyone that day and keeps its own best score.

Controls

  • Move a piece: drag it from the tray with the mouse or your finger and let go over the board
  • On touch screens the piece floats above your finger so you can see where it goes
  • Let go off the board, or where the piece does not fit, and it goes back to the tray
  • Endless / Daily: switch mode; each mode keeps its own game in progress
  • Restart: start a new game (tap it twice while a game is in progress)

Tips

  • Keep the middle of the board open: a five-long bar or a 3 × 3 square needs a lot of room, and you never know when one will come.
  • Fill the edges and corners first; they are the hardest places to use later.
  • Before placing the first piece of a set, look at all three and make sure each will still have room.
  • Try to clear something every few moves so your streak keeps growing.
  • Completing a row and a column with the same piece scores 30 and frees up a lot of space.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate the pieces?

No. Every piece is placed exactly as it is dealt, which is what makes choosing a spot interesting. Different turns of the same shape come up as separate pieces.

What is the Daily puzzle?

A game in which everyone gets the same pieces in the same order that day, so you can compare scores with friends. A new one starts at midnight on your device. You can replay it as often as you like; your best score of the day is kept.

Is my game saved?

Yes. The board, the pieces in the tray and your score are saved in your browser after every move, separately for Endless and Daily.

Is there a time limit?

No. Take as long as you like over every move.

Is Block Puzzle free?

Yes. It is completely free to play in your browser, with no download, no account and no in-game purchases.
