Reef Dive — free online Casual game

Swim a living coral reef and hand-feed 41 kinds of sea life.

Reef Dive is a free online 3D underwater exploration and fish feeding game. Swim freely through a coral reef full of fish, sharks, turtles and rays, and toss food to the sea life you meet: small reef fish snap up flakes, big fish and sharks only take krill, and bottom dwellers wait for food to sink to the sand. Every new creature you feed adds a page to your fish log, fed fish follow you for a while, and regulars earn up to three stars. There is no timer and no way to lose — just a calm dive. Play with keyboard and mouse or touch controls in your browser, with no download and no sign-up.

Quick start

  1. Swim with W A S D (or the joystick on a phone) and drag to look around.
  2. Click or tap near a fish to throw food toward it.
  3. Watch it eat — every new kind you feed is added to your fish log.

How to play Reef Dive

  1. You are a diver on a shallow coral reef. Swim anywhere you like: from the sandy floor and the coral gardens up to the open water just under the waves.
  2. Throw food by clicking or tapping the screen. Food flies the way you point, slows down in the water and slowly sinks.
  3. There are two foods. Flakes come in a pinch of six and drift down slowly; krill is a single heavier piece that sinks fast. Switch with the Flakes and Krill buttons.
  4. Small and medium reef fish eat flakes. Big fish — tuna, swordfish, sharks, rays, turtles and squid — ignore flakes and only take krill.
  5. Bottom dwellers such as catfish, flounder, rockfish and lobsters only eat food that has already sunk to the sand. Sea urchins and moray eels never move, so the food has to land right by them.
  6. Each fish eats a few bites and then is full for a while. Fish you have fed follow you around for a bit.
  7. The fish log lists all 41 creatures. Feeding a kind for the first time fills its page; keep feeding it to earn up to three stars. There is no timer and no way to lose.

Controls

  • Swim: W A S D or the arrow keys — you swim where you look, so look up and swim forward to rise
  • Up / down: Space / Shift
  • Look around: hold the mouse button and drag
  • Throw food: click the screen, or press F to throw at the crosshair
  • Switch food: 1 for flakes, 2 for krill, Q to toggle
  • Fish log: L, or the button in the top-left corner
  • Touch: joystick to swim, ▲ ▼ to go up and down, drag to look, tap to throw food, or hold Feed to throw straight ahead

Tips

  • Point the crosshair at a fish to see its name, its stars and — once you have fed it — what it eats.
  • Throw food a little ahead of a moving school, not straight at it.
  • Sharks, tuna and rays cruise high above the reef. Swim up into the open water and throw krill there.
  • To feed bottom dwellers, let the food sink: look down near the sand and throw, then wait.
  • Seahorses stay close to seaweed and swim slowly — bring the flakes right up to them.
  • Undiscovered pages in the fish log give a hint about where each creature lives and what it eats.

Frequently asked questions

Is Reef Dive free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.

Can I lose?

No. There is no timer, no health and no score to beat. Food is unlimited — the goal is simply to meet and feed every creature on the reef.

Why won't a fish eat my food?

Either it is the wrong food (big fish only take krill, small fish only take flakes, bottom dwellers only eat food on the sand) or it has just eaten and is full. Point the crosshair at it: a full fish says so.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. On a touch screen you get a joystick, up and down buttons and a Feed button. The reef is a full 3D scene, so an older phone may run it slowly.

Is my fish log saved?

Your fish log, stars and chosen food are saved in your browser on this device. If you sign in, cloud saves can keep a copy of it on your account.
