Darts — free online Arcade game
Throw at a full-size board: 301 finishing on a double, Around the Clock and free practice.
Darts is a free online darts game you can play in your browser with no download and no sign-up. Aim at a regulation board, hold steady and let go to throw: your aim drifts while you hold and settles after a moment, so timing the release is half the skill. Play 301 and count down to exactly zero in 20 rounds, finishing on a double, with a suggested checkout for every finish from 170 down; go Around the Clock from 1 to 20 and the bull in as few darts as you can; or practise freely and watch your three-dart average. Pick a steady, normal or shaky hand. On a phone you aim by dragging anywhere and a magnifier shows the target, so your finger never covers it. Your game is saved as you go.
Quick start
- Press Start Game. A game of 301 with a normal hand is ready (or the game you left).
- With a mouse: point at the board, hold the button down and let go to throw. On a touch screen: put a finger down anywhere and drag; the crosshair moves with it and a magnifier shows the target. Lift your finger to throw.
- Wait a moment before you let go: the crosshair wobbles at first and is steadiest after about half a second.
- Count 301 down to exactly zero. The line under the scores suggests a checkout once you are on 170 or less; the last dart has to be a double.
How to play Darts
- You throw three darts a turn. A number scores its value; the thin outer ring doubles it, the thin inner ring trebles it. The green outer bull is 25, the red bullseye 50, and anything outside the double ring scores nothing.
- 301: every dart comes off your score. You must finish exactly on zero with a double (the bullseye counts as a double). Go below zero, leave 1, or reach zero without a double and it is a bust: the turn ends and your score goes back to where it was.
- 301 gives you 20 rounds. Your best is the fewest darts you needed to check out.
- Around the Clock: hit 1, then 2, all the way to 20, then the bull (either part). Any part of the number counts. Your best is the fewest darts for the whole round.
- Practice has no target: throw at anything and watch your three-dart average and your best turn.
- While you hold a dart the crosshair drifts: unsettled at first, steadiest from about half a second to a second and a half, then your arm tires and it grows. The dashed circle shows where most darts land around the crosshair.
- Choose a steady, normal or shaky hand. A shakier hand drifts and scatters more. Bests are kept separately for each mode and hand, and changing the hand starts a new game.
Controls
- Aim (mouse): move the pointer over the board
- Throw (mouse): hold the button, let go
- Aim (touch): drag anywhere on the board; the magnifier shows where you aim
- Throw (touch): lift your finger
- Pull the darts out early: tap the board after the third dart
- New game: New Game button or N on the keyboard
Tips
- Release in the calm window: not straight away, and not after holding for ages.
- Treble 20 is the big score, but on a shaky hand treble 19 or the fat single 20 can be safer.
- Leave yourself a favourite double such as 32 (double 16) or 40 (double 20): a miss into the single still leaves a double.
- On a touch screen, small drags move the crosshair a little less than your finger, so fine adjustments are easy.
- In Around the Clock aim at the fat single area, not the trebles: any part of the number counts.
Frequently asked questions
What does bust mean?
In 301 a dart that would take you below zero, leave you on 1, or reach zero without a double is a bust. The turn ends at once and your score goes back to what it was at the start of the turn.
Does the bullseye count as a double?
Yes. The red bullseye is worth 50 and counts as a double, so you can check out on it from 50. The green outer bull (25) does not.
Why does my aim move?
Holding a dart is never perfectly still. The crosshair settles after about half a second and starts to drift more if you hold too long, so timing your release matters. Pick the steady hand if you want less movement.
Is my game saved?
Yes. Each mode's game in progress, your best results and your settings are saved in your browser.
Is Darts free?
Yes. It is completely free to play in your browser, with no download, no account and no in-game purchases.
