Rooftop Runner — free online Arcade game
Run the city rooftops as a postal robot: jump the gaps, slide under the billboards and chain your tricks.
Rooftop Runner is a free online running game you can play in your browser with no download and no sign-up. You are a little postal robot dashing across the rooftops: it runs by itself, you jump over gaps, air conditioners and chimneys, hold to jump higher and further, and slide under hanging billboards. Every gap, box, wall and billboard you clear is a trick, and tricks in quick succession build a combo of up to ×10, so a smooth run scores far more than a careful one. The route is stitched together from 60 hand-made rooftop pieces, each checked by a solver to make sure it can always be run, and it speeds up the further you go, through a dusk city, a night harbour and a snowy old town. Play endless runs, or the daily run, where everyone gets the same rooftops for the day. Use one finger, a mouse or the keyboard.
Quick start
- Press Start Game, then tap the picture or press Space: your postal robot starts running by itself.
- Tap the right side of the picture (or press Space / ↑) to jump over gaps, air conditioners and chimneys. Hold it to jump higher and further.
- Tap the left side (or press ↓) to slide under the hanging billboards. Hold it to stay low under a long one.
- Keep going as far as you can. The run ends if you fall between buildings or run into something.
How to play Rooftop Runner
- The robot runs on its own and gets faster the further it goes. You only decide when to jump and when to slide.
- A tap gives a short hop; holding gives a higher, longer jump. You can land on top of boxes and chimneys and run along them.
- Billboards hang too high to jump over: the only way past is to slide underneath, and you must keep sliding until you are clear.
- Press slide in the air to dive: the robot tucks in, drops fast and slides as soon as it lands.
- Every gap, box, wall and billboard you get past is a trick. Tricks less than about two seconds apart build a combo up to ×10, which multiplies their points.
- Envelopes floating above the rooftops are worth extra points and count for the combo too. Your score is the distance in metres plus all your trick points.
- Endless gives you a new route every run. The daily run uses the same route for everyone for the whole day, with its own best score.
Controls
- Jump: tap the right side of the picture, Space, ↑ or W (hold for a higher jump)
- Slide: tap the left side of the picture, ↓ or S (hold to stay low)
- Dive: slide while in the air
- Run again: Run Again button or Enter
Tips
- Jump a little early at high speed: the gaps come up faster than they look.
- Don't hold jump out of habit; a short hop lands sooner and leaves you ready for a billboard.
- If you are still in the air when a billboard comes up, dive.
- Run along the top of a chimney instead of jumping straight back down; it keeps your combo alive.
- Every rooftop piece has been checked by a solver: there is always a way through.
Frequently asked questions
Is every jump possible?
Yes. The route is built from 60 hand-made rooftop pieces, and a solver using the game's own physics checks that each piece, and pieces joined together, can be run at every speed it can come up at.
What is the daily run?
A route made from the date, so everyone who plays that day runs the same rooftops. Your best daily score is kept until the next day.
How does the combo work?
Each trick (a gap, box, wall or billboard cleared, or an envelope collected) raises the combo by one if it comes within about two seconds of the last, up to ×10. Trick points are multiplied by the combo.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Tap the right side of the picture to jump and the left side to slide; you can use two thumbs.
Is Rooftop Runner free?
Yes. It is completely free to play in your browser, with no download, no account and no in-game purchases.
