Nonogram — free online Puzzle game
Fill the grid from the number clues — every puzzle has one solution, reachable by logic.
Nonogram is a free online picture logic puzzle. The numbers beside each row and above each column give the runs of filled squares in that line, in order. Fill squares and mark the ones that must stay empty until every clue is satisfied. Puzzles come in 5×5, 10×10 and 15×15 and are generated fresh each time; each one is checked to be solvable by line logic alone, so it has exactly one solution and never needs guessing. Drag to paint several squares, undo freely, ask for a hint when stuck, and chase your best time without hints. No download, no sign-up.
Quick start
- Press Start. 5 × 5 is a gentle first puzzle; 10 × 10 is the classic size.
- Tap a square to fill it, or drag across several. Switch to ✕ Mark empty to mark squares you know stay blank.
- A clue turns dim once its row or column matches it.
- Fill exactly the right squares to solve the picture — hints are there if you get stuck.
How to play Nonogram
- Each row and column has a clue: the lengths of its runs of filled squares, in order from left to right or top to bottom.
- Runs are separated by at least one empty square. A clue of 0 means the whole line is empty.
- Use the clues together: a run that is longer than half the line must cover its middle squares, and a line whose runs exactly fill it is fixed at once.
- Marking squares that must stay empty is optional but helps you see the next deduction.
- The puzzle is solved when the filled squares match every clue. Each puzzle has exactly one solution and never needs guessing.
Controls
- Fill / clear: tap or drag over squares (dragging repeats the first square's action)
- Mark empty: choose ✕ Mark empty, right-click with a mouse, or press X to switch tools
- Undo: the Undo button, U or Ctrl + Z
- Hint: the Hint button or H — it fixes a mistake first, otherwise fills a square
Solving tips
- Start with the biggest clues: in a 10-square line, a run of 7 always covers the middle 4 squares.
- Add up the clue plus one gap between runs; if that equals the line length, the whole line is decided.
- When a run is already placed, mark the squares on both sides of it as empty.
- Hovering a square highlights its row and column clues, so you always know which numbers you are working with.
Frequently asked questions
Do the puzzles ever need guessing?
No. Every puzzle is generated and then solved by a program that only uses line-by-line logic. Only puzzles it can finish completely are shown, so each has a single solution you can reach by reasoning.
Do hints count against me?
A puzzle solved with hints still counts, but only puzzles solved without hints can set your best time.
Is Nonogram free?
Yes. It is completely free to play in your browser, with no download, no account and no in-game purchases.
What sizes are there?
5×5, 10×10 and 15×15. A new puzzle is generated every time, so you will not run out.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Tap and drag work on touch screens, and the grid scales to the screen; 15×15 is most comfortable in landscape or on a tablet.
