Ludo — free online Board game

Roll, race your four tokens round the board and knock rivals back to their yard.

Ludo is the classic race board game, free to play in your browser. Roll a six to bring a token out of your yard, move it once round the 52-square track and up your coloured home column, and get all four tokens home before anyone else. Land on a rival token to send it back to its yard — except on the starred and start squares, which are safe. A six, a capture or a token reaching home earns another roll, but three sixes in a row lose the turn. Play one or three computer opponents, or pass the device round for 2–4 players. No download, no sign-up.

Quick start

  1. Press Start. You are red, in the bottom-left yard. Pick 1 or 3 computer opponents, or 2–4 players for pass-and-play.
  2. Press Roll (or tap the die). You need a 6 to bring your first token out.
  3. When several tokens can move, the ones you can play glow — tap one.
  4. Race all four tokens round the board and up the red column to the centre.

How to play Ludo

  1. Each player has four tokens in a yard. A roll of 6 brings a token onto your start square.
  2. Tokens move clockwise round the 52-square track by the number rolled. After one lap they turn into their own coloured home column and on to the centre.
  3. Reaching the centre needs the exact roll; a token that would overshoot cannot move.
  4. Landing on a square with a rival token sends that token back to its yard. Start squares and starred squares are safe — nobody is captured there.
  5. Rolling a 6, capturing a token or bringing a token home earns another roll. Three 6s in a row lose the turn.
  6. The first player with all four tokens in the centre wins.

Controls

  • Roll: the Roll button, the die, Space or R
  • Move: tap a glowing token (1–4 keys pick a token); with a single choice it moves by itself
  • New game: the New game button or a mode button

Tips

  • Get two or three tokens out early so every roll has a useful move.
  • A token within six squares in front of a rival is in danger — move it on or onto a safe square.
  • Your home column is safe; once a token is in, it cannot be captured.
  • Captures are worth the most: a rival token sent home loses all its progress.

Frequently asked questions

Which Ludo rules are used?

A 6 to leave the yard, one lap of 52 squares, exact roll to finish, captures except on start and star squares, an extra roll for a 6, a capture or a token home, and three 6s losing the turn. There are no blocks: tokens never stop other tokens from passing.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Choose 2–4 players and pass the device round; everyone plays a colour on the same screen.

Is Ludo free?

Yes. It is completely free to play in your browser, with no download, no account and no in-game purchases.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. The board fills the screen and tokens are big enough to tap.
