Y2K Strike is a free online pixel-art vertical shooter. It is the last days of 1999 and a two-digit year field is about to crash the world: fly the repair program DEBUG-99 through runaway source code, a software giant’s headquarters, a mainframe, the boardroom and the global time core, and beat a multi-phase boss at the end of each stage. Between fights you pick patches that stack into five build styles, choose a safe, standard or unknown route, and decide how to handle retro system events. Four difficulties run from a story-friendly compatibility mode to a one-life millennium mode, and your high scores are saved locally. Play with the keyboard in your browser, with no download and no sign-up.

Programs everywhere store the year as two digits. At midnight 99 becomes 00, and the world’s clocks are about to roll back to 1900.
You fly DEBUG-99, a repair program sent through five layers of the system to patch the bug at its source before the countdown runs out.
Quick start
- Pick a difficulty on the title screen; standard is the balanced default.
- Hold Z or Space to fire and steer with the arrow keys.
- Survive the waves, beat the boss and choose a patch after each stage.
How to play Y2K Strike
- Each run has five stages — runaway source code, the Megasoft headquarters, a mainframe, the boardroom and the global time core — and each ends with a multi-phase boss.
- You start with 3 lives and 2 emergency rollbacks. A rollback clears every enemy bullet on screen, damages all enemies and makes you briefly invulnerable.
- Your hit box is the small core of the ship, not the whole sprite. Hold the precision key to slow down and thread through dense bullet patterns.
- After fights you pick one of three patches. Patches belong to five build styles; stacking the same patch or style unlocks stronger effects.
- Once per stage you choose a route: safe, standard or unknown code. Riskier routes are harder and more likely to trigger one of the retro system events.
- Losing every life lets you continue up to three times: lives and rollbacks are restored, firepower drops and the score resets, but your high score is kept.

Difficulties

- For players who want to see the whole story: slower bullets, a smaller hit box, and continues keep your firepower.
- Standard
- The default difficulty that the game is balanced around.
- Expert
- Stronger formations and new boss moves, with at most one continue.
- MillenniumUnlocked by clearing Expert
- One life, no continues, a fixed seed — everyone gets the same run.
Tips
- Watch your core, not the ship: bullets that touch the wings do not count.
- Save a rollback for boss phase changes, when the patterns get denser.
- Pick patches from one or two styles instead of a little of everything.
- Every boss has a part you can destroy on its own — breaking it early makes the fight easier.
