Tic-Tac-Toe — free online Board game
Three in a row wins — against an easy or unbeatable computer, or a friend.
Tic-Tac-Toe (noughts and crosses) is free to play in your browser. Take turns placing X and O on a 3×3 grid; the first to line up three across, down or diagonally wins, and a full grid with no line is a draw. Play the easy computer, try to hold the impossible one to a draw — it never loses — or play a friend on the same screen. Wins, losses and draws are counted for each mode. Number keys 1–9 place a mark. No download, no sign-up.
Quick start
- Pick Easy, Impossible or 2 players. You play X and go first.
- Tap a square to place your X.
- Line up three in a row — across, down or diagonally — before the computer does.
How to play Tic-Tac-Toe
- The board is a 3×3 grid. X always moves first, then O; players alternate one mark per turn.
- The first player with three marks in a line (row, column or diagonal) wins.
- If all nine squares fill without a line, the round is a draw.
- Press New round to play again; the score for each mode is kept.
Controls
- Place a mark: tap a square or press 1–9 (top-left to bottom-right)
- New round: the New round button or R
Tips
- Start in a corner: it gives the opponent the most ways to go wrong.
- Make a fork — two lines that each need one more mark — and the opponent can only block one.
- Perfect play from both sides is always a draw, which is why Impossible never loses.
Frequently asked questions
Can I beat the Impossible computer?
