Snake is the all-time classic arcade game, free to play in your browser. Steer the snake around a 20×20 field with the arrow keys, WASD or a swipe on your phone. Every apple adds ten points and one segment, and every five apples the snake speeds up. Hitting a wall or your own body ends the run, so plan your turns as the snake grows. Pause any time with P or Esc, and chase your best score, which is saved on your device. No download, no sign-up.
Quick start
- Press Start (or Space).
- Turn with the arrow keys or WASD; on a phone, swipe in the direction you want to go.
- Eat the red apples and avoid the walls and your own tail.
- Press P or Esc to pause.
How to play Snake
- The snake moves on its own across a 20×20 field; you only choose when to turn. It cannot turn straight back on itself.
- Each apple is worth 10 points and makes the snake one segment longer. A new apple appears at once.
- Every five apples the snake speeds up one level.
- The run ends if the head hits a wall or any part of the body. Your best score is kept.
Controls
- Turn: arrow keys, WASD or swipe
- Pause / resume: P or Esc
- Start / play again: Space or the button
Tips
- Keep to the edges early on and leave the middle open for when the snake is long.
- Sweep the field in long back-and-forth rows to avoid trapping yourself.
- Turn one move before you need to: at higher speeds a late swipe is a crash.
