Go — free online Board game

Surround territory on a 9×9 or 13×13 board against the computer.

Go is the ancient board game of territory, free to play in your browser with no download and no sign-up. Place stones, capture groups by taking away their liberties and finish with more area than your opponent. Play on a 9×9 or 13×13 board against four AI levels: Novice, Casual, Intermediate and Grandmaster; scoring uses Chinese area rules with komi for White.

How to play Go

  1. Players take turns placing a stone on an empty intersection; Black plays first.
  2. A stone or connected group with no empty neighbouring points (liberties) is captured and removed.
  3. You may not play a move that recreates the previous board position (the ko rule).
  4. At the end, stones plus surrounded empty points are counted. White receives komi to make up for moving second.
