Chinchón — free online Card game

Spain's favourite rummy: build sets and runs with the Spanish deck, close at 3 points or less, stay under 100.

Chinchón is free to play in your browser: the rummy game played in every bar and family kitchen in Spain, with the 40-card Spanish deck and two jokers. Each turn you draw from the deck or take the top discard, then throw one card away. Build sets of three or four cards of the same number and runs of three or more in a row of one suit — after the 7 come the jack, knight and king. When your unmatched cards add up to 3 or less you can close the round; all your cards in combinations scores −10, and the others count the points left in their hands after laying off what they can on your combinations. Pass 100 points and you are out; the last player standing wins. Seven in a row of one suit is a chinchón and wins the whole game at once. Play against one, two or three computer opponents at three levels. The game arranges your hand into combinations and shows how many points you still hold. No download, no sign-up.

How to play Chinchón

  1. Chinchón uses the 40-card Spanish deck plus two jokers. Each player gets seven cards; one card starts the discard pile.
  2. On your turn draw one card — from the deck or the top of the discard pile — and then discard one, so you always end with seven.
  3. Combinations are sets of three or four cards of the same number, and runs of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. In a run the 7 is followed by the jack (sota), knight (caballo) and king (rey).
  4. A joker can stand in for any card inside a combination; every combination needs at least two real cards.
  5. When the cards you could not combine add up to 3 points or less, you may close: put one card face down and show your hand. All seven combined scores −10.
  6. The other players show their combinations, may add cards to the closer's combinations, and score the points of whatever is left. Cards count their number; jack, knight and king count 10 and a joker 25.
  7. Anyone over 100 points is out. The last player left wins. A chinchón — seven cards in a row of one suit, without jokers — wins the game immediately.

Tips

  • Throw high loose cards early: a stray king costs 10 if someone closes.
  • Keep pairs and cards one or two apart in the same suit — they turn into combinations fastest.
  • Watch what the next player picks up from the discard pile and don't feed them.
  • A joker is a huge help, but get rid of it in a combination: caught loose it costs 25.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I close with 4 points?

In this version you may close with 3 loose points or fewer, a common rule in Spain.

Can a run go from king to ace?

No. Runs go 1-2-3 … 7-jack-knight-king and stop there.

What happens when the deck runs out?

The discard pile, except its top card, is shuffled to make a new deck.

Is Chinchón free?

Yes, completely free in your browser, with no download and no account.
